Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The Haitian National Soccer Team's first appearance in a FIFA World Cup ends short in their Group D at the 2023 edition in Australia/New Zealand. They lost 0-2 against Denmark at the Perth Rectangular Stadium in Perth, Australia.

Both teams came out with the determination to win. But Denmark created an early opportunity 20 minutes into the game. Haiti faced a setback when the referee whistled for a handball inside the penalty area on Dayana Pierre-Louis.

The captain for Denmark, Pernille Harder, stepped up and capitalized on the opportunity, slotting the ball into the net and giving Denmark a 1-0 lead.

Despite the goal deficit, Haiti remained resilient and sought to level the score, keen on registering their first goal in Australia.

In the 28-minute, Roseline Eloissaint made an impressive attempt, but Denmark goalkeeper, Lene Christensen, pulled off a remarkable save, denying Haiti a goal.

The match remained intensely contested in the second half, with Haiti trying to find a breakthrough, creating numerous chances to score, including a threatening header in the 76th minute that forced another save from Christensen.

As the minutes ticked away, Haiti pressed forward, seeking to equalize with their star Melchie Dumornay and Captain Nerilia Mondesir, who led the charge, showing great determination. But, the Danish defense stood firm, thwarting their efforts.

In the 97-minute in stoppage time, the Danish aggravated the score when Sanne Troelsgaard converted a cross-field pass on the right side of the field and got into the box to release a shot to the far post that eluded Haiti GK Kerly Theus, resulting in the second goal to secure their place in the Round of 16.

Though Haiti may not have progressed to the next stage, its participation in this tournament has left an indelible mark in soccer history. Their impressive performance earned them respect and admiration on the global stage.
