Boca Raton - Fl. The Florida Atlantic Owls soccer team (3-3-2) faced a tough challenge at their home ground, where they suffered their third loss of the season against the University of Tennessee Volunteers (5-1-1), with a final score of 2-0.

The Owls could not find their game to create danger against their opponent, allowing the Volunteers opportunity after opportunity.

Through the 19 minutes into the game, Tennessee had already benefited from two corners and launched four shots, and FAU goalie Blythe Braun saved two of them.

Shortly after the Owls subbed in Daniella Diaz for Madison Micioni and Sofia Voldby for Molly Setsma into the game, in the 22-minute, Tennessee opened the score from their junior forward, Nolyn Bartholomew, who just came in from the bench to score on the corner kick, assisted by their defender Ally Brown.

The Owls remained stagnant and could not open up their game to get in range to take shots in goal. But the Volunteers kept the pressure up and took another shot a minute later in frame that Blythe sent out for a corner kick.

The Volunteers continued their offensive onslaught at the 28-minute mark when the junior midfielder, Jordan Fusco, scored a second goal for Tennessee from an assist by their sophomore forward, Kameron Simmonds, to lead at the half 2-0.

The Owls came out more aggressive to start in the second half to get their first corner kick in the 56-minute and their first shot with Malaya Melancon in the 75-minute that went out right.

The referee, Matt Miscannon, called to stop the game due to adverse weather conditions that went over a 30-minute delay, which resulted in a 2-0 victory for Tennessee over FAU.

"We're just kind of chasing the game, chasing the scoreboard, and chasing a really good team," head coach Patrick Baker reflected. "It was a great learning experience for all of us and gave us a couple of sessions to run before we start conference play later this week."

FAU will travel to North Carolina to play against East Carolina University Pirates on September 14 at 7 p.m.
