Inter Miami CF, #22 Nicolas Stefanelli, provides the game-winner for Miami right after over a 40-minute lightning delay, substituting in for Taylor in the 72nd minute of regulation
Entered the locker room in a deadlock of 0-0, Miami found the back of the net in the 57th minute with Franco Negri, #33, to open the score 1-0. Nashville found the equalizer in the 66th minute with Alex Muyl.
However, in the 73rd minute, Stefanelli instantly made an impact to put Inter Miami ahead 2-1 after being subbed in. He helped Miami close the night game with a victory and flipped the script from their last MLS matchup against Nashville SC on May 17.
The team has reached the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals for the first time in their two years of Open Cup program campaigns.
"We challenged them for the last two days about their standards and their identity," said coach Phil Neville in his post-game interview. What we're really focusing on now is trying to create with this football club, is to get a trophy in that cabin over there, 'academy medal in, academy trophy. So that's the challenge for us."
Inter Miami looks to carry on with the same spirit on the road on June 6 or 7 in the U.S. Open Cup awaiting the winner between Birmingham Legion FC and Charlotte FC on Wednesday, May 23.
